Background

A well-known Chilean cheese brand was seeking an ethical glass yogurt jar vendor manufacturing in order to provide its fast-growing yogurt packaging with portability. The company required jars that were capable of long-distance delivery to the factory to distribution centers and all parts of Chile. The client personalized 200ml round and glass jars with straight smooth walls, slightly thickened base and 63mm twisting off finish, which can be foil sealed and then used with metal lids. They chose Yeboda due to our regular production quality and export packaging experience and capacity to optimize the strength of jars to be shipped within the international market.

Challenges

Ocean Shipping High Breakage

Preliminary deliveries had a significant proportion of smashed jars owing to vibration and pressure in the long sea delivery.

Low Impact Resistance in Jar Shoulder

There were also jars that broke due to stacking pressure at the point of the shoulder.

Cause Analysis

Our technical department examined the jars and shipping procedure and found out two significant reasons:

  • Lack of equal distribution of the glasses resulted in stress points in the shoulders and sidewalls.
  • Carton packaging conventionally used was not firm enough to absorb vibration during transportation.

Solution

Optimized Glass Distribution

Being a veteran seller of glass yogurt jars, we optimized gob weight and molding specifications to get a more consistent wall and shoulder thickness which enhanced structural integrity.

Design of Reinforced Packaging

To minimize the jar movements during shipping, we redesigned the export cartons with extra dividers and shock-absorbing inserts.

Further Transport Tests

There were drop tests and simulated vibration tests to ensure that the enhanced durability was realized before full scale production.

Results

The shipping breakage rate was reduced by more than 75%, which significantly lowered the Chilean brand’s logistics costs. This not only improved product delivery but also enabled the company to expand its distribution channels through various retail channels, leading to more stable market growth for the brand.
