Background
Yeboda is a factory in honey jar customize. One of the Canadian honey brands approached us with a requirement of a long-lasting export quality packaging that would not ruin the shelf appearance. They custom-made crystal-clear flint glass, with a wide, rounded mouth, a reinforced bottom, and a screw-on metal top with a food grade liner. Yeboda was selected by the brand due to our ability to customise the honey jars end-to-end, structural engineering, and good track record of minimising the breakage rates in the process of cold-chain transportation.
Challenges
Punishing Breakage Rate in Cold Chain Transportation
During winter transportation and storage in warehouses, honey jars were broken and this led to losses and customer complaints.
Week Fragile Jar Openings at Sealing Pressure
The disruption of filling lines was observed when high-torque sealing was done, and micro-cracks were formed around the jar openings.
Cause Analysis
Technical tests of the Yeboda involved impact, thermal and stress tests and revealed the primary problems:
- Thickness of the wall was uneven, which caused stress concentration at the bottom and shoulder of the jar.
- Anealing was not adequate enough to leave behind tension and as such, temperature variation intensified the tension.
Solution
Reinforced Honey Jar
We also optimised the wall thickness, strengthened the bottom radius, and optimised the bottom geometry, which enhanced the impact strength of the glass honey jars.
Process and Packaging Optimization
Annealing curve was optimized by Yeboda, online thickness monitoring was introduced and carton partitions and pallet stacking techniques were improved to reduce movement.
Results
The breakage rate was reduced over 70 percent and the fill efficiency was leveled and even the winter transportation wastage was virtually eradicated. The Canadian brand was able to increase its scale of distribution, which confirms the skills of Yeboda in customized honey jars and developing a long-term relationship due to the high-performance glass honey jars.
